I have 700 basted hexagons prepared for my Batik Mosaic quilt. I will need almost 900 to make the 72-inch square finished size that I want. Getting closer! I hunted through my stash of fat quarters, and bought a few pieces to round out the selection of fabrics. I forgot to count how many different fabrics I am using, but I think it is between 25 and 30. The hexagons are 1-1/2 inches on each side (3 inches wide at the middle). I'm going for a scrappy, unplanned look by arranging the different fabrics randomly when I join the hexagons together. I want to finish basting all that I will need and then I will start whip stitching the hexagons together, small sections at a time.
Hi Dawn, I just came over from the Linky at Jessica's blog. That is quite a goal you have set for yourself with your hexies, but I can't wait to see your finished quilt when you get there. Love the blues!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you waited so long before starting to sew them together! That box of hexies is so inviting. I usually baste 3-5 and then can't stop myself...
ReplyDeleteHave fun with these, 1.5" is a great size. Your quilt will grow quickly.
this will be so lovely! I love batik fabric and your hexies are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA little box of jewels! Beautiful, and promising. JJ
ReplyDeleteI love your planned "layout". I am doing a similar one in pink and gray, but larger. It is *killing* me not to start whipstitching them together, but I worry about distribution of color/prints so I'm waiting.
